Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: 9 ways to repurpose your content
Somewhere along the lines the message got confused.
Our aim as marketers is not to continually produce content.
Instead, we should be trying to get our best content seen by as many people as possible.
And repurposing content is a great way to breathe some life back into our best content.
Here are 9 ways to do it (and there are hundreds more).
1. Update or refresh
Sometimes the simplest tricks are the best.
- Take a great piece of content.
- Add in some new stats or update some info.
- Hit republish.
- You can add a quick note at the beginning to let readers know this is well-loved content brought bang up to date.
It may be that nothing needs updating but the article could do with a spruce up.
- Find a great image and put the title of the post in the image.
- Make sure this is marked-up for use when your post is socially shared.
- Add in subheads to make everything scan easier.
- Get your design team to work up those clumsy excel graphs.
- Reshare and promote your content using your new headings and your new snackable stats and graphs.
2. Get visual
Get your design team to do the graft for this little beauty.
Wherever you have data and a story to tell, the opportunity to create an infographic should never be too far from mind.
3. Break out your listicles
You’ll have to work a bit more for this one.
- Take a popular listicle post.
- Expand each item into a stand-alone piece of content.
- As you tick off each item, hyperlink them from the original post.
- And – on completion – re-promote your now comprehensive guide.
4. Don’t be shy
Like all good scientists we decided a control experiment was needed.
We searched high and low but failed to find the rule that says you should only promote on social media content that is freshly published.
If you have great content – keep it circulating.
(We’ve some clever ways to do this that ensure you don’t appear repetitive that we’ll share shortly).
5. Share some slides
Here’s another quick and easy win.
- Pick out the headline stats.
- Throw in some humorous memes
- Round up the relevant quotes.
- Use CTAs for advice.
- And – voilà – you have a presentation that offers an easy way to digest your article.
- Post on SlideShare to engage a new audience.
6. Find questions your content answers
Quora is perfect for repurposing content that answers questions – and what content doesn’t?
7. Be my guest
Content can be the perfect springboard for guest posts.
These new, additional posts don’t need to be as in-depth as the original, so you can easily hire a blog writer to create several quick summaries while giving the content a new angle.
8. Create a series
You can use a single piece of content or a number of themed pieces to create all you need for an email series.
Make it super valuable and you can offer it as a reason to sign-up – just like you might an eBook.
Which brings us to…
9. Collate content as an Ultimate Guide
If you have a lot of content on a theme you can collect it together to publish an eBook. And any additional research or writing you do can, of course, be published as standalone blogs.
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before
We’ve never been stopped for repurposing content.
Repurposing content is your chance to showcase your best, find a new audience, use new channels and drive more engagement.
Never apologise!
